Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe

Pumpkin spice season is officially upon us!

As the leaves change colour and fall from the trees, the perfect companion for a brisk autumn day is a good ol' pumpkin spice latte, or PSL, if you will.

This fall, we've got the perfect homemade pumpkin spice latte recipe for you to try using simple ingredients you can find in your pantry or local grocery store. This recipe also calls for real pumpkin puree, and of course, good coffee. (Click here if you need good coffee!)

So, let's get started, shall we?

What You Need:

  1. Pumpkin Puree (1 tbsp); this can be purchased pre-made at your local grocery store!

  2. Pumpkin Pie Spice (1/4 tsp), made with the following basic pantry spices:

  3. - Ground Cinnamon (2 tbsp)
    - Ground Ginger (2 tsp)
    - Ground Cloves (1 tsp)
    - Ground Nutmeg (3/4 tsp)
    - Ground All Spice (3/4 tsp)

  4. Vanilla Extract (1/2 tsp)
  5. Maple Syrup (1 tbsp, or to taste)
  6. Double shot of espresso or coffee of your choice
  7. Milk of your choice (1 cup)

Note: Though this recipe is for one drink, the recipe calls for blending a pumpkin pie spice in a larger amount than required, which will give you more than enough for many beverages throughout the season! Feel free to use this delicious warm spice blend in baking or cooking as well.

The Steps:

Step 1: Make Pumpkin Pie Spice

You can buy this pre-made at some grocery stores. But, if you'd like to make it yourself, all you need to do is mix all of the dry ground spices listed above in a jar of your choice.

  • Ground Cinnamon (2 tbsp)
  • Ground Ginger (2 tsp)
  • Ground Cloves (1 tsp)
  • Ground Nutmeg (3/4 tsp)
  • Ground All Spice (3/4 tsp)

  • Once all mixed together, label your jar and store it in your pantry so it's always ready to go for your pumpkin spice latte!

    Step 2: Brew your coffee

    With a home espresso machine:

If you're using a home espresso machine, go ahead and pull a double shot of espresso at a ratio of 1:2.

    Other brewing methods:

If you are not using a home espresso machine, we recommend using the brew method that is most comfortable to you! (we recommend a strong and full-bodied brew of 1:2)

    Step 3: Prepare your milk

    With milk steamer:

    1. Add milk into your pitcher.
    2. Add 1 tbsp of pumpkin puree, ¼ of pumpkin pie spice blend and approximately 1 tbsp of maple syrup to the pitcher.
    3. Mix until ingredients are incorporated, steam until warm or to desired temperature.
    4. Pour over your espresso shot.
    5. Garnish with pumpkin pie spice.
    6. Enjoy!
    Without milk steamer:

    1. Add 1 cup of milk, 1 tbsp of pumpkin puree, ¼ of pumpkin pie spice blend, and approximately 1 tbsp of maple syrup to a small pot.
    2. Stir over low-medium heat until reaching your desired temperature (careful not to burn the milk).
    3. Remove from stove.
    4. Pour over your coffee and garnish with pumpkin pie spice
    5. Enjoy!

Step 4: Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Now you've learned how to make a pumpkin spice latte from the comfort of your own home!
